MADISON (WKOW) -- The Badgers' kicking woes have reached a new level of desperation. Head coach Gary Andersen announced on Friday he may even use linebacker Chris Borland in Saturday's game at Illinois.
Waunakee native Jack Russell will be the primary field goal kicker this week. However, Andersen says he may use Borland for field goals of more than 45 yards. The senior kicked three extra points against Hawaii as a freshman. He has been working out with the special teams in recent weeks. Andersen says he's been impressed with Borland in practice.
"He's good at about anything he tries to do athletically, it seems. We tried it a few weeks ago and he made it. He does a good job. So, we've worked a little more this week actually getting there, timing it up and giving him a little bit of coaching. Not too much coaching though. We don't want to take it out of him. So, we'll let him go."
The Badgers play at Illinois on Saturday at 7 p.m.
