UPDATE: Drunk driving suspect charged in Stoughton boy's death

MONROE (WKOW) -- Appearing for his court case through video conference from Monroe Hospital, a Monroe man was charged with five felony crimes in connection with the crash death of 10-year old Michael Iverson of Stoughton.

The charges against 21-year old Trevor McGuire include first degree reckless homicide, and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

A criminal complaint states McGuire and a friend drank tequila, and had a tequila flask inside McGuire's pick-up drunk, before the truck collided with a van driven by the victim's father, Matthew Iverson, on Highway-59 in Albany Oct. 7. Court records state Matthew Iverson was injured, including fracturing his spine. Members of the Iverson family were returning home after attending a middle school volleyball game in Monroe.

Court records state an Illinois man and a Monroe woman saw McGuire's van driving recklessly and passing cars in a no-passing zone before the collision.

Authorities have released no blood alcohol level for McGuire for the day of the collision.

A judge set McGuire's bail at $100,000, with $10,000 of the total to be posted in cash.

McGuire's attorney said McGuire is recovering from a surgery. McGuire was dressed in a tee shirt, and appeared able to walk, as he appeared for the court hearing from the hospital.

McGuire was arrested in January for first offense drunken driving, but the case was settled with a lesser charge, eliminating the possibility of a longer revocation of McGuire's license. Green County assistant district attorney Jeffrey Kohl says there were evidence problems in prosecuting McGuire for the more serious, drunk driving charge.

McGuire is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on his five felony charges Jan. 3.

MONROE (WKOW) -- Authorities say the driver of a truck involved in a collision that killed a Stoughton boy may participate in a court hearing from a hospital bed Friday.

Officials say 21-year old Trevor McGuire drove drunkenly and slammed into a van on Highway 59 in Albany Oct. 7, killing 10-year old Michael Iverson.

Green County District Attorney Gary Luhmann says McGuire is expected to face charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, and causing great bodily harm, and possibly other charges. The boy's father was seriously hurt in the collision.

McGuire was initially released from a Monroe hospital and placed in the Green County jail following the collision, but returned to the hospital. Authorities have released no information on McGuire's condition.
