Eau Claire (WQOW) - A first year event in Eau Claire had a record number of people racing through Carson Park early Sunday morning.
More than three thousand people laced up for The Biggest Loser Run/Walk. Organizers say they've held races in places like Seattle, Washington and Lexington, Kentucky, and Eau Claire's turnout has been the highest yet. Many runners had been working to lose weight ahead of Sunday's half marathon. Some started their journey during the Chippewa Valley Challenge, an annual, local weight loss competition.
"Once I started the challenge I actually weighed in at 266. And at the end of the challenge I was down to one 175 pounds. I've got about 30 or 40 more pounds I'd like to lose. I'm actually doing the half marathon; my goal is to get it in less than four hours," said Donna Basacker of Eau Claire.
Race organizers say runners came from more than 30 different states. In addition to the half marathon, there was also a 5k and a one mile fun run for kids.
Contestants from seasons 5 and 14 of The Biggest Loser were there running and cheering others on.
