Deadline is Tuesday for Menominee casino project

MADISON (WKOW) – The Menominee Nation has until Tuesday to make the case to Gov. Scott Walker for a new off-reservation casino.

The Menominee want to open a casino in Kenosha.  So far, the federal government has signed off on the project but Walker has yet to give his permission.  The governor says he will approve the casino if the Menominee can show the project has community support, the state's other 10 tribes agree and that it won't result in a net increase in gambling.

Two tribes oppose the plan, Forest County Potawatomi, which operates a casino in Milwaukee, and the Ho-Chunk Nation.
