Remembering Brookfield salon shooting victims

BROOKFIELD (WKOW) -- It's been a year since a Brown Deer man walked into a Brookfield salon with a gun and killed three women and the community is remembering the victims.

Police say Radcliffe Haughton shot and killed his estranged wife Zina Daniel, along with Cary Robuck and Maelyn Lind.

Families of the victims gathered Monday night to remember the lives lost. A memorial service and candlelight vigil was held at Milwaukee City Hall.

Zina Daniel had a restraining order out against Haughton, who had been violent with her in the past. A year after the extreme act of domestic violence, people who knew the victims demanded a way to prevent these tragedies.

"The question I struggle with is, why? Why did it come to that fateful Sunday? Why, when there was awareness of what was going on, did it come to this? Why was there no one who could help?" says Shawn Scheffler, Cary Robuck's friend.
Zina Daniel's family members are also calling for stricter gun laws, including universal background checks.
