Altoona to make offer to interim police & fire chief

Altoona (WQOW) - He's been in charge twice on an interim basis in Altoona, but now he's being given a chance to remove the temporary title.

On Monday night, the Altoona Police and Fire Commission said it would make an offer to Interim Chief Jesse James.  James is a detective who's been with the department for many years.  He was appointed interim chief when Public Safety Director James Small recently resigned.

The commission also recommended the city council discuss the possibility of splitting the public safety director into two positions, instead of having one person handle the job of police and fire chief.  For now, the offer to James would have him serve the dual role.
