Madison's Finance Committee adds thousands to proposed budget

MADISON (WKOW) – Madison's Finance Committee added about $500,000 in additional spending to the city's proposed budget Monday night.

At the meeting, the committee considered 32 amendments to Mayor Paul Soglin's $275.2 million plan.  According to the Wisconsin State Journal, all but eight of them passed.

Spending increases include $150,000 more for the Overture Center and $292,000 more for Madison Metro fuel expenses.

If the proposed budget passes in its current form, the budget would increase property taxes by about $35 for the average Madison home.

The city council will make the final budget decisions in early November.
