Funeral services arranged for Milton police lieutenant


MILTON (WKOW) -- Milton police have announced details of a funeral service for an officer who died suddenly over the weekend.

Milton police Lt. John Conger was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday evening. He was with Milton police for 21 years.

Services will be held on Friday, October 25 at St. Mary Church on Parkview Drive in Milton. Visitation is from 2-7 p.m. with a service to follow at 7 p.m.

Chief Daniel Layber released the following statement Tuesday:

"Lt. Conger was a 21 year member of the Milton PD that served his community with distinction and dedication. Lt. Conger's community outreach efforts were second to none and touched the lives of many in our community. He was dedicated to protecting his community and provided many outreach efforts to our children and was a leader in bullying education and prevention. He will be missed not only by the citizens of our area but by the law enforcement community that he was such an integral part of."
