MADISON (WKOW) -- When people think of ballet the Nutcracker or Swan Lake often come to mind, but starting Wednesday the Madison Ballet will be bringing an unexpected tale of the undead to the stage.

"Dracula: A Rock Ballet" runs Wednesday through Saturday this week at the Capitol Theater at the Overture Center for the Arts. The unique performance features original and athletic choreography, a live band and steampunk inspired set.

The original production debuted last March and is back by popular demand to launch the company's 2013-2014 season.  Madison Ballet's interpretation of the classic Bram Stoker novel is a high-volume mix of rock concert and contemporary ballet.
Expect dynamic choreography from Artistic Director W. Earle Smith and an original rock score composed by Michael Massey. The innovative set features a seven piece band on the stage, allowing the dancers to weave in and out from band members.
"This performance was part of my heart and soul for the nearly five years it took to get it on stage," says W. Earle Smith, Madison Ballet Artistic Director.  "Of course it's a perfect fit for the end of October!"
