Melinda's Garden Moment: Creating a fall garden

MADISON (WKOW) -- In order to garden during cool temperatures, you have to learn what plants are perfect for fall weather.

Melinda says you can add a splash of color to your fall garden with a few fresh containers or you can purchase some readymade planters from your local garden center.

Select plants that love the cooler fall temperatures or reach their peak floral display in fall.  Melinda suggests plants like Swiss chard, rudbeckia or spike for vertical accents.  You can also boost the color with asters, mums and frost tolerant annuals like ornamental cabbage, dianthus and pansies.

If you are looking for a more ornamental setting, you can add peppers and a bit of flavor with bok choy and decorative mustard.

If you just want to perk up some of your weather weary containers, just add a dianthus and aster for a fresh splash of color.
