You'll have to wait up to two weeks to file taxes this year

Eau Claire (WQOW)- You'll have to wait to file your taxes to Uncle Sam for this year, thanks to the government shutdown.

The Internal Revenue Service says it will delay the start of the tax filing season by up to two weeks.

In a statement, the IRS says the move was necessary to allow "adequate time to program and test tax processing systems" following the 16-day federal government closure.

The original 2014 filing season was set to begin January 21st. A new filing start date will be announced in December.

You can still send in a paper tax return any time, but the IRS won't look at it until the season officially starts.
