Growers prepare for Christmas tree season

PLAINFIELD (WKOW) -- Even though it's not even Halloween yet, Christmas tree farms are busy getting ready for their season.

The cutting and bagging has begun at one of Wisconsin's biggest tree farms; Detlor in Plainfield, about 90 miles north of Madison

"Each tree is sent through a bailer, there then hauled up in the yard and put in the shade.  The stores want them earlier and earlier every year," said tree farm owner Richard Deltor.

During the next four weeks, workers at Deltor will process 30,000 Christmas trees that will be sent across the Midwest, including Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and South Dakota.
