Stephen Heimsness officially retires from Madison Police Dept.

MADISON (WKOW) – The Madison Police Officer involved in a high-profile deadly shooting last November has official retired.

Stephen Heimsness was accused of using excessive force when he shot and killed local musician Paul Heenan.

Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne and the Madison Police Department cleared Heimsness of wrongdoing in the shooting.

Heimsness agreed to retire after former Police Chief Noble Wray pushed to terminate his employment.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Heimsness' retirement as a city employee has been effective since October 14.
