Veterinarians reminded it's illegal to take animal medicine off-site

MADISON (WKOW) – The DEA is enforcing an old law that does not allow veterinarians to do house calls anymore.

The controlled substances act makes it illegal to take drugs used for animal treatment off-site.

It has been law since the 1970's but officials recently began contacting veterinarians in several states to remind them the practice is illegal.

Veterinarians say providing off-site treatment is something they've been doing for decades and is much needed.

A non-profit group is pushing for congress to pass an amendment to the law.
