Sam and Patricia Garwo make a statement regarding the death of 5-year-old Brayden Turnbill:

"Just over three and a half weeks ago we opened our home to another family in need. At no time did we suspect Brayden or any of our children were in danger. None of our family was home when Brayden was injured and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement. We have three young children who are trying to comprehend what has just happened and at this time we would appreciate our privacy and would hope people and the media would allow our family to heal."

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office confirms the death of a Sun Prairie boy.

Five-year-old Brayden Turnbill was taken to University of Wisconsin Hospital Tuesday with life-threatening injuries.  Brayden was pronounced deceased Thursday.

An autopsy was completed Friday and the Medical Examiner has ruled the little boy's death a homicide.  Additional physical examination will resume next week.

The case remains under investigation by the Sun Prairie Police Department, along with the Dane County Sheriff's Office and the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office.

"It's incumbent upon us to do the very best investigation that we can so that charges can be brought," Sun Prairie Police Dept. Assistant Chief Scott Faust tells 27 News.

Police say when an ambulance responded to a home on Barrington Circle Tuesday, they found Brayden with life threatening injuries. A child abuse investigation ensued. Police have not said if any arrests have been made.

"That would be one of the details that I cannot reveal because it would jeopardize the investigation," Faust says.

Neighbors tell 27 News another family moved into the home where this happened about a month ago. Dane County land records show Brayden has a different last name than the homeowners.

Neighbors say they plan on raising money to help those affected by this tragedy.
