UWEC International Folk Fair celebrates 31 years

Eau Claire (WQOW)- Visitors to the UW Eau Claire campus got a chance to tour the world Sunday afternoon. UW-Eau Claire held its annual International Folk Fair and this year's event featured some changes.

A few new countries, like the Philippines and Kenya, were recently added to the festival. UW-Eau Claire students formed their own campus groups just this past year.

One student, who came to the U.S. five years ago, saw the campus lacked an organization that represented her ethnicity. Catherine Manlolo, a sophomore undergraduate, said she formed the Filipino Student Association to not only meet other Filipino students but also to educate the community about her culture.

"It's the fact that I'm representing my country, and that I'm sharing it to the community, and actually having them learn a little bit about my country and something that I am very proud of," Manlolo said.

The International Folk Fair is home to more than 30 ethnic groups, represented by campus organizations. Those who stopped by learned about the different cultures and sampled foods. The event has been going on for over 30 years.
