Short standoff in Monroe ends quietly Monday morning

MONROE (WKOW) -- Shortly after 8:00 Monday morning, Monroe police were notified of a domestic disturbance involving a handgun.

Three women were able to flee, leaving the 26-year-old husband of one of the women alone inside the home.  No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Officers and deputies with the Green County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene and were able to secure a perimeter.  Monroe/Lafayette Emergency Response Team also assisted.

Negotiations took place for just over two hours, when the male subject peacefully surrendered and was taken into police custody.

The investigation into this incident continues and a search warrant is being sought for the home.

No further details as to why this incident took place are being released at this time.
