DNR cracks down on illegal sexual activity at state park

BELMONT (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says wardens busted up an illegal sex ring.

The activity was centered at Belmont Mound State Park, north of Belmont in Lafayette County.

The DNR says it received complaints from citizens about illegal sexual activities at the park.

"This investigation, which started a few months ago, utilized law enforcement expertise from several agencies," Chief Conservation Warden Randy Stark said in a news release. "And the goal was to identify those responsible and put a stop to this type of behavior in a family park where safety is everyone's top priority."

Wardens say they found ads on Craigslist that told people to meet at the park for adult interaction.

The illegal behaviors were alleged to have occurred in the park's restrooms, trails and in vehicles.

The DNR says sexual assault and other charges are pending.

"The DNR will not tolerate illegal sexual activities or other associated disorderly conduct on its state properties," Stark said.

There's no word on how many people were involved.
