Barron (WQOW) -- The 32nd-annual WIAA State Boys Soccer tournament begins Thursday at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee. This is the first time Barron has qualified for state.
The Golden Bears began the postseason as a four seed in their half of the Division 4 bracket, but Barron played some of its best soccer down the stretch, knocking off a pair of number one seeds along the way, so the Golden Bears are feeling pretty good heading to state.
"I think we definitely celebrated for a little bit," says Barron head coach Jeff Rousselow, "we let the guys have their fun, but now that Monday came, Tuesday came were back on the field practicing and we definitely have our sights set on the Prarie School and what's in front of us right now."
"For me it means a lot because it's my senior year," says Barron senior defender Weston Hargis, "and we've been trying to get there the last three years and we finally made it. To be part of the first one is really special becuase that's a team that's always going to be remembered, so I really hope we show what we can do when we're down there."
"There's no way we thought that," says Barron senior midfielder Logan Langerude about getting to state, "we were all thinking, we had an average season and we had pretty good years before this, we were hoping for just a pretty good season, and we smashed all expectations really. "
Barron battles The Prairie School in a Division 4 state semifinal, Thursday, at 2:00 P.M.
