Governor Walker addresses Confluence Project during UW-Stout visit

Menomonie (WQOW) - Wisconsin's governor is talking about a big project, planned for downtown Eau Claire.

Now that the Eau Claire city council has pledged five million dollars to the Confluence Project, attention shifts to the state for support.

Governor Walker was in Menomonie this afternoon. He was invited to speak at UW-Stout's manufacturing conference. Afterward, we asked him about the multi-million dollar downtown Eau Claire project. Developers have said the project would require $25 million from the state to move forward.

"Well I think it's an interesting, interesting project. I've sat down with leaders in the last few months from Eau Claire about that it's an area of interest. In the last budget that I just approved this summer, we did a number of projects where the state played a match to some public and private dollars, whether it was the Dairy Research Center or The World Dairy Expo, some of the other areas related to agriculture. Those are the sorts of things were looking at though where the state itself isn't just making the sole investment, but we're leveraging other dollars," said Gov. Scott Walker.
