Four candidates in the mix for Eau Claire police chief job

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Four candidates will be interviewed in the search for a new top cop in Eau Claire.

One will travel from as far away as Alaska while another lives in Eau Claire.  All four men will sit down with the Eau Claire Police and Fire Commission, a citizen board that has the task of selecting the new chief.

Steven Hebbe of Anchorage, Alaska, Maurice Richards from Chicago, Jerry Staniszewski of Eau Claire and David Zibolski from DeForest, Wisconsin have all been invited to interview.  Staniszewski serves as a deputy chief for the Eau Claire Police Department.  He's been with the force for many years.

Jerry Matysik, the former police chief, retired earlier this month after 10 years as the head of the force.

The commission will outline its next steps following the interviews.  It hopes to have a new chief in place by the end of the year.
