Lawmaker's daughter speaks about heroin addiction

MARINETTE (WKOW) -- The daughter of a state legislator is speaking out about her heroin addiction.

Cassie Nygren is in the Marinette County jail.

The 24 year old was arrested in Texas after violating her probation for a 2009 drug-related felony conviction.

In a jailhouse interview with WBAY-TV, Nygren said she's become someone she never expected to be.

"I don't recognize myself. I was raised right, given morals to not do things that I've done, so every time I come back here to try it again, I can't bear it. It's like a label I'm never going to be able to shake. So I turn back to the drugs," she said.

Nygren's father, Republican assemblyman John Nygren, has introduced a number of bills aimed at reducing the state's heroin problem.

It's called the HOPE agenda; heroin opiate prevention and education.
