Two men sentenced in fatal shooting of Racine man

RACINE (WKOW)--  Two men have been sentenced in the fatal shooting of a Racine musician. Twenty-two-year-old Jeremiah "Jay" Brook was shot once through the heart during a botched robbery attempt in July of 2012.

Kiori Billups, 22, was sentenced Friday to 22 years in prison. Prosecutors say Billups lured Brook to a parking lot under the guise of buying marijuana from Brook, but that his cousin planned to rob Brook instead. The judge also sentenced Billups to 13 years on extended supervision.

Billups' cousin, 21-year-old Latriell Thurman, was sentenced at a separate hearing to 37 years in prison plus 13 years on extended supervision.

Brook's father, Robert Brook, disputes that his son was dealing marijuana. Defense attorneys for the cousins plan to appeal their sentences.
