UPDATE: Victim of fatal Barron County crash identified

Barron County (Press Release) - On Friday, November 1, 2013, at 9:51p.m., the Barron County Sheriff's Department received a call of a one-vehicle crash on CTH A near 20th Street, southwest of Chetek in the Town of Sioux Creek, Barron County. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff's Department, the Chetek Fire Department, and Chetek Ambulance, were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was discovered a vehicle being driven by Gale Birch, 49, of Chetek, was traveling east on CTH A near 20th Street, left the roadway, and struck several trees. Birch was deceased at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of crash.

Contributing factors include alcohol and failure to wear a seatbelt.

The crash is being investigated by the Barron County Sheriff's Department.

Barron County (WQOW) - The Barron County Sheriff's Department says alcohol use and not wearing a seat belt were the contributing factors of a fatal accident.

According to the sheriff's department the crash happened Friday night around 10pm, six miles west of Chetek on County Highway I. They say the driver swerved off the road and hit a tree. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The name of the man has not been released. Law enforcement says no one else was in the car or in any danger.
