UWEC Battle Tested As WIAC Play Looms

Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The opponents weren't easy (all three ranked in the top-25 by D3Football.com) and the results weren't what they wanted (three losses) but the UW-Eau Claire football team is battle tested entering WIAC play.

On Saturday, the Blugolds dug and early hole against 10th-ranked Pacific Lutheran, going down 21-7 at the half. But the second half was a different story. The defense shut down the Lute and the offense was a two-point conversion away from tying the game late in the 4th. The comeback gives the team optimism as it prepares for the start of the conference season.

"We have the confidence that we can go out and play with anybody in the country. We just have to go out and show it. Fix those little things and then we'll be in those game and we'll be on the victory side of it," says junior quarterback Mark Munger.

"Defensively, we played well in the second half, shutting out -- we shut out a very good offense there," says head coach Todd Glaser. "So there's a lot of things to build off. But like we said at the end of the game, we have conference play coming up and we have to be ready."

UW-Eau Claire has another tough test ahead next Saturday when the team travels to face 9th-ranked UW-Platteville.
