GREEN COUNTY (WKOW) -- A new sheriff is joining the ranks at the Green County Sheriff's Office.

Governor Scott Walker's office announced Tuesday the governor has appointed Monroe Police Lt. Mark Rohloff to serve as the next sheriff in Green County. He'll take office next week with a term ending in early 2015.

Rohloff has been with Monroe police for 21 years and serves as second in command, managing daily operations at the department. Lt. Rohloff also worked for Janesville and Brodhead police, along with serving in the Wisconsin National Guard.

"Mark is an outstanding professional with more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement," Governor Walker said in a statement.  "Mark's leadership qualities and his strong character, combined with the respect he has earned from the community, make him an excellent choice to serve as Green County's next sheriff."

"I am pleased by the news of this appointment and look forward to the opportunities and challenges it represents," Mark Rohloff said in a statement.  "I have a long–standing professional relationship with the sheriff's department and anticipate little difficulty assuming my new position there.  The staff are dedicated individuals, and I look forward to serving the citizens of Green County with them."

Rohloff replaces resigning sheriff Jeffrey Skatrud.
