Part of the Chippewa Valley River Trail is getting a facelift

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A popular Eau Claire trail for bikers, walkers, and rollerbladers is getting some work done.

Work started this week to repave three sections of the Chippewa River Trail. Two pieces are in Owen Park, along with a section between the Hobbs Ice Center and the railroad bridge near Claremont avenue. They are being re-done due to poor trail conditions.

"We try to evaluate asphalt conditions looking at cracks or holes, dips, breaks things like that and we give it a rating," said Steve Roscoe with the Eau Claire Parks Department, "We deemed these sections to be in poor condition and decided to replace them."

Half of the $60,000 project is paid for by the city while the other half is covered by a grant from the Wisconsin DNR. The trails will remain open but park officials say to use a detour when possible and to be aware of uneven trails and construction crews.
