New website measures community health and wellness

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW)- You don't have to go far to monitor how active our community is, a new website measures community health and wellness.

The website gathers and displays local health data about the prevalence of diseases like diabetes or cancer, as well as risk factors such as obesity rates.  The idea is to help the community identify problem areas.  For example: Eau Claire County's binge drinking rate is higher than the state's average.

"I think Eau Claire really is being innovative with some of its philosophy and action around public health," says Jan Porath, Executive Director of the United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley.  "I think this will be another really important tool, it's that one stop shop to get up to date information and help make decisions."

The Eau Claire County Health Department will host a demonstration on how to use the website next Thursday at 9 A.M. It will be open to the public.
