Strongest storm ever recorded hits the Philippines Friday

PHILIPINES (WKOW) – One of the strongest storms ever recorded slammed into the Philippines Friday morning.

Super Typhoon Haiyan has sustained winds of 195 miles per hour and gusts as strong as 235 miles per hour.  Its wind strength is equivalent to an exceptionally strong category 5 hurricane.

Officials say four people are dead but they expect the death toll to rise throughout the storm.  The storm set off landslides, knocked out power in several provinces and forced more than a million people to flee.
