Madison police looking for an attempted robbery suspect

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police are looking for a suspect in an attempted robbery at a store on the city's east side.

Police say a suspect, described as a black male in his mid 20's went into the Batteries Plus store on East Washington Avenue around 1:42 p.m. on Sunday with his hands in his pockets. A 30-year-old female store clerk believed he might be concealing a gun.

The robber ordered her to open the cash registers, while at the same moment, a 29-year-old male employee, who had just finished a break, came into the room.

Police say this evidently surprised the suspect because he immediately left, empty-handed.

The suspect is described as six-foot tall, 210 pounds, with short hair and facial stubble. He was wearing a dark blue fleece coat with buttons over a black hooded sweatshirt, dark shoes, and blue jeans with fancy stitching on the rear pockets.
