United Way sending personal care items to those in need

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Most of us have a morning routine, but many people in our community don't have that luxury.  Thanks to the community's support, hundreds of local families will be given an extra hand.

On Tuesday, members of the United Way were busy sorting shoe boxes filled with things like soap, deodorant and toothbrushes. The Shoe box Project is in its third year and as of this afternoon; volunteers were able to pack about 500 boxes.

"What tends to be not so readily available are those day to day personal care items. The kind of things you can live without, but you lose a little dignity, a little hope, a little personal well being having these items. But they are costly," said James Peters, United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley director of Marketing.

After all the items are sorted, the volunteers will be taking the shoe boxes to places like Bolt on Refuge House, Sojourner House, and Western Dairyland.
