County board approves frac sand regulation statement unanimously
Pepin County (WQOW) - A county board is taking a stand against frac sand legislation.
A state senator has been working on a bill that would restrict some local authority. On Tuesday, the Pepin County Board voted 11-0 in opposition. The legislation has not come up for a vote in Madison yet and Tuesday's vote in Pepin County was symbolic only.
The board says it feels the expansion of sand mining and processing in western Wisconsin raises, "significant local public health, economic, environmental and quality of life issues." The board says it opposes any state legislation that would preempt the ability of towns and counties to craft their own regulations.
