Madison high-risk traffic stop leads to arrest of homicide suspect

MADISON (WKOW) -- Around 9:15 Wednesday morning, Dane County Sheriff's deputies, along with the City and Town of Madison Police, conducted a high-risk traffic stop on the westbound Beltline near Seminole Highway.

A Traffic Team deputy was working on Highway 51 when he ran a random Department of Transportation record check on a 2002 Toyota Corolla.

The registered owner, 28-year-old Malachi Hankel, came back with an outstanding 1st degree reckless homicide warrant from La Crosse County.  Additional law enforcement was called to respond and the vehicle was stopped.  Hankel was taken into custody without incident.

Hankel was booked into the Dane County Jail.  He will be returned to La Crosse County to face the homicide charge.
