Court records released Friday show investigators seized more than one hundred items, including marijuana and possible human teeth, from an Evansville home in connection with the disappearance of 18-year old Aprina Paul of FitchburgMore >>
(WKOW)-- 18-year-old Aprina Paul's family members are disappointed after hearing the list of possible charges for the suspect in their daughter's death investigation.
Nathan Middleton has been in police custody since November 1st for a probation violation, but is now being held as the suspect in this case.
"I know deep in my heart. I feel it. I know that he killed my daughter," mother Alice Larrue says.
It has been a tough two weeks for Larrue, who says the worst thing besides her daughter Aprina being gone is hearing Middleton's explanation of what happened.
"I know my daughter wasn't a prostitute. I know my daughter wasn't a drug addict. I know these things," Larrue says.
Middleton was interviewed by detectives after he called officials and told them that Paul's body could be found in a burn barrel in his back yard. He says Paul died from a drug overdose after the two had sex at his Evansville home. He told detectives he met Paul after posting an ad on Craigslist asking for sex.
"That's his side of the story. I don't agree with that. I don't believe that and Aprina is not here to give her side of the story," Larrue says.
On Wednesday, Rock County detectives presented findings from their death investigation to the district attorney. Based on that information Middleton was arrested for hiding a corpse, mutilating a corpse, pandering, possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to notify coroner of death.
Some evidence in the case including bone fragments are still being analyzed at a specialized laboratory in Dallas Texas. Officials hope these tests will help them determine a cause of death.
Meanwhile, Larrue and other family members are holding out hope as well that they'll soon find out what really happened to Aprina.
"I would think as the days go on that it was going to get easier, but it's actually getting harder," Larrue says. "I don't have a choice but to be patient."
JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- The Rock County Sheriff's Office has met with the District Attorney to present findings from the death investigation of Aprina Paul on U.S. Highway 14.
Based on the review, Nathan Middleton was arrested for the following crimes: hiding a corpse, mutilating a corpse, pandering, possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to notify coroner of death.
A forensic evaluation of bone fragments and evidence is being tested by a specialty laboratory in Dallas, Texas. If the evidence indicates a cause of death, further charges may be brought against Middleton.
At this point, Middleton remains in custody and is expected to make a court appearance Thursday, November 14th.
