Paramedic accused of stealing narcotics

RICE LAKE (WQOW) - A paramedic has been accused of stealing narcotics from an ambulance service.

Maxwell Bauer from Chippewa Falls was in court in Barron County today. He faces 24 charges of forgery and obtaining controlled substances and prescription drugs by fraud.

Rice Lake police say they were notified last week by the Lakeview Medical Center that it suspected Bauer of stealing drugs after finding discrepancies in an audit of ambulance records.  Police say there's nothing to indicate that patient safety was compromised.
