Bloomer approves new pit bull ordinance

Bloomer (WQOW) - Bloomer is revamping a policy about pets.

The city had prohibited pit bulls, but on Wednesday night, the city council changed that. It gave the final approval to allow pit bulls with some restrictions.

"There was a public hearing and people came and voiced their concerns," Bloomer Police Chief Jared Zwiefelhofer said. "Myself and two of the aldermen then sat down and re-wrote the ordinance to allow the people to have their pit bulls, but also to protect the citizens of Bloomer."

Here's a list of the stipulations:  Pit bull owners must have a written statement from a veterinarian saying the dog has a good temperament. The animal must be registered with the police department and have a photo on file. When the dog is off the owner's property, it must be leashed and muzzled... and the owners must have insurance for $50,000.
