Eau Claire, Altoona (WQOW) -- There are a number of college signing day ceremonies around the area, Wednesday, including at Eau Claire North and Altoona.
Altoona golfer Gabby Curtis signs to play at the University of Wisconsin. Curtis competes on the Railroaders boys team, and has finished fourth and tenth individually in the last two WIAA Division 2 Boys State Championships.
Curtis, who also competes in girls volleyball and girls hockey, says Wisconsin was always on the top of her college wish list.
"It was definitely at the top of my list," says Curtis, "I wanted to go somewhere far away at first, but then when I realized I would be playing down south, and traveling a lot then I knew close to home would be good to still feel like you have that home, but you're still far enough away."
Josh Weix, a 6-5 guard/forward from Eau Claire North, signs with Division II Southwest Minnesota State. Weix says he had some other opportunities at the D-II level, but the Mustangs' program was the front-runner from the very beginning.
"All my friends asked me where I wanted to go for college and the main place I said was Southwest State," says Weix, "so it just stuck with me. The coach. I really enjoyed the coach, the town, and the basketball players mostly. The guys made me feel like home."
