Officials begin mass burials in Tacloban

PHILIPPINES (WKOW) – Tons of international aid has arrived in the Philippines but delivering it to survivors in desperate need is proving slow and difficult while roads and runways are cleared.

The enormity of the task ahead is staggering.  According to the government, more than two million people need food and water.

On Thursday, officials have started burying the dead in a mass grave in order to continue recovery efforts.  Since the typhoon hit, bodies have been lying on the streets in Tacloban.

According to officials in the Philippines, the official death toll has climbed to 2,357. That number is expected to rise as cleanup continues and bodies are discovered.  Almost 4,000 people have been injured and more than 70 people are still missing.
