Stoughton woman stops Park Street mugging

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Police Department says a Stoughton woman stopped a mugging that happened on 2000 block of S. Park Street Thursday afternoon.

"Everyone was driving past like they didn't see nothing," the 40-year-old Stoughton woman told police.

She was driving near a very busy S. Park Street around 4 p.m. on Thursday when she saw two muggers on top of a 20-year-old man.

They were "grabbing him by the head and punching him," the woman said.

According to police, others chose not to get involved, but the woman got out of her car and ran across the street to yell at the criminals to stop.  The suspects ran away with the victim's phone.  The victim knew one of the attackers, but not the other.

One suspect is described as African American in his early 20's.  He was wearing a dark colored heavy coat.  The other suspect is a 21-year-old man with no permanent address.
