Irvine Park bison given a clean bill of health

Posted:

Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - It's back to business as usual for an area zoo after a few tough losses.

The Irvine Park bison are moving back to their normal enclosure. They were moved out back in September when a virus spread and the zoo lost four bison, one male and three females. The animals were cleared of the virus recently but didn't start moving back until today, because the zookeepers were worried about adding more stress to the herd.

"There are two orphans. We just wanted to make sure they were established on who to listen to and what the scoop was within the group because they had to reorganize everything. The dominant female is still here so she is playing the role of the male bison right now," Jennifer London, Irvine Park Zookeeper says.

Park officials say they were touched by the community's reaction to the losses. One note was left on the fence a couple of weeks ago. It may be hard to read after weathering a few rains but it says "we will miss you."
