UPDATE: Owner of loose Chippewa Co. horse located

Chippewa County (WQOW) - A horse mystery has been solved in Chippewa County. The owner steps forward.

The horse, named Gingerbread, was originally found by a couple last month near the Country Fest grounds. No one knew where it came from. The sheriff's office reached out to the media to spread the word. This morning, we learned the owner stepped forward thanks to a trip to the bank. A loan officer told the owner they saw it through social media and wondered if the animal was his. He said it was, and he had given it to his granddaughter as a gift. He's now in contact with the couple looking after Gingerbread.

Chippewa County (WQOW) - UPDATE: The owner of the horse found running loose in Chippewa County has been located! This is the note WQOW News 18 just received from the Chippewa County Sheriff:

The owner of the horse has been located. They live in the southern part of Chippewa County and pasture their horses north of the Fest grounds. Thank you all media groups, as this is what led to the owner being located. You made a 7-year-old girl very happy to have her horse back.

Chippewa County (WQOW) - Yesterday we posted a story online about a horse that was found in Chippewa County. Overnight, that post has garnered a lot of attention and a lot of questions. Today, we have some of the answers.

The sheriff's office says a couple found the horse last month running on a road between Jim Falls and the Country Fest grounds. The couple, who own horses, were able to capture it and take it to their home. It appeared the horse had been running for awhile but did not appear to be malnourished. The gelded painted pony was wearing a green halter and had weighted shoes on its front hooves.  Authorities say there is no indication the horse was abandoned.

The question most people asked was: What will happen to the horse if he isn't claimed? That is still unknown but, thanks to our viewers, we know there are many people who are willing to offer him a home. We were told that right now, the focus is on finding the owners.

If you have any information about the horse, you're asked to call the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office at (715) 726-7701.
