UPDATE: Driver seriously hurt after semi collides with deer dies

Barron County (WQOW) - A driver, seriously hurt, after his semi collided with a deer, has died.

Jacob Haas, from Chetek, was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital early Tuesday morning. Wednesday afternoon the Barron County Sheriff's Department was notified he had passed away.  

The crash happened on Highway 8 near Turtle Lake.

The deer went through the driver's side windshield, hit the driver, and went through the back window.

Updated Barron Co. Press Release - The driver of the semi was identified as Jacob Haas, 35 from Chetek. As of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday he is still listed in critical condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

The crash remains under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff's Dept.

Barron Co. (Press Release) - On Tuesday November 19, 2013, at 4:05 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff's Department received a call of a car deer accident and a semi in the ditch with injuries on Hwy 8 just east of Turtle Lake.

Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff's Department along with the Cumberland Ambulance, Turtle Lake Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Turtle Lake First Responders, Turtle Lake Fire Department and Life Link Helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival it was discovered that a car, driven by Brianna Kandler, 18 from Chippewa Falls was traveling east on Hwy 8 and struck a deer causing damage to her vehicle. She had minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.

It was also discovered that a Jennie-O Turkey Store Semi was traveling west on Hwy 8, driven by a 35 year old male from Chetek had also struck a deer. The deer went though the driver's side portion of the front windshield, striking the driver and continuing all the way through the back window. The driver of the semi was extricated and flown to Regions Hospital in the Twin Cities in critical condition.

The name of the semi driver is being withheld at this time pending family notification.

These accidents remain under investigation by the Barron County Sheriff's Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
