Volunteers handout Thanksgiving dinners

MADISON (WKOW) -- Volunteers in Madison worked hard Saturday to ensure less people go without a Thanksgiving dinner next week.

The Goodman Community Center began handing out its annual Thanksgiving baskets. Over 30 volunteers braved the cold weather to put together ingredients needed for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, like turkey, gravy, stuffing and cranberries.

The event continues to be popular throughout Madison, with over 2,500 people registering to receive the baskets this year.

"The families who are picking up Thanksgiving baskets don't have another option for having a turkey on Thanksgiving. So some would go possibly without any food for the day, or they defiantly wouldn't be able to afford the full, complete Thanksgiving basket," says organizer Amy Mach.

The center is still accepting donations throughout the weekend. Organizers say they are running especially low on things like gravy, turkey and canned fruit.

For more information on how to donate, visit the Goodman Community Center web site.
