Former Ramada holds final event before closing its doors Sunday

Eau Claire (WQOW) - When the last guest checks out the doors will be shut until a new buyer is found.

The Holidaze Arts Festival is the final event for the hotel and convention center. Organizers of the event say they've had some challenges with the uncertainty of the venue. They say they had 15 artists cancel their visits since the closure was announced.

"It's kind of sad," said Tami Schraufnagel, Holidaze Organizer "I'm into downtown revitalization. The convention center is important and the hotel is important so that the people that stay here will stay in the footprint of downtown.

The hotel has already been auctioned off twice this year but both times the winning bidder failed to meet payment deadlines.

A third sheriff's auction will be held on December 3rd.  Depending on what happens at that auction the hotel could reopen its doors in the future.

Organizers of the festival say if someone buys the hotel they want to keep the event at the convention center next year.
