DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Fitchburg police were called to the 2400 block of South Syene Road for a single vehicle crash around 9:30 Monday morning.

Preliminary investigation reveals the vehicle was driven by a 23-year-old Fitchburg man.  He was northbound on Syene Rd. when he lost control, left the roadway and overturned.

His female passenger, a 26-year-old Fitchburg woman, was pinned in the vehicle and later pronounced dead on the scene by the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office.  The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

This crash remains under investigation, however, road conditions appear to be a factor.  Names of those involved are not being released at this time.

Police say a 51-year-old driver from Minnesota died in the crash.  The other driver, a 50-year-old Deerfield woman was eastbound when she lost control and slid into the westbound lane of traffic, striking the mans pickup truck.  The female driver suffered minor injuries and has since been released from an area hospital.

State Highway 12/18 was closed until 1:00 p.m.  Assisting the Cottage Grove Police were the Dane County Sheriff's Department Reconstruction Unit, Dane County Sheriff's Department, Deer-Grove EMS, and Cottage Grove Fire Department.

Names of the drivers are not being released at this time.  The crash remains under investigation.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Cottage Grove police have confirmed to WKOW Channel 27 there was a deadly traffic accident Monday morning, on US Highway 12 near County Road BN. The department provided no other details to 27 News about the crash.

There were many other crashes Monday morning, leading to severe traffic backups during a snowy morning commute.

City of Madison Streets Superintendent Chris Kelley tells 27 News his street crews will likely be out till at least 11:00 p.m. tonight treating city roads.

Kelley says trucks will continue to salt routes through the afternoon/evening rush hour, while sanding hills, curves and intersections. Madison Streets officials plan to meet at 6:30 to re-evaluate the condition of city roads.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County officials are dealing with multiple accidents across the county as snow falls during the morning commute.

There is a report of a rollover accident at County Highway MM and Goodland Park Road in Fitchburg. Dane County Communications says there are reports of injuries.

There are some major delays on the Beltline, but salting and sanding crews with the City of Madison are applying salt and salt brine to main streets. They have been out working since about 5:30 a.m. . Salt and salt brine is being applied to our salt routes, which are our main arterials, main connector streets, streets that Madison Metro runs on and streets around schools and hospitals.

The street department will continue to salt and plow salt routes until they are no longer slippery and the snow has been plowed off of them. They will also be sanding the hills, intersections and curves.

The Madison Streets Department cautions drivers during the morning commute to drive carefully, slowly and brake early.
