MADISON (WKOW) -- Gannett Wisconsin Media reports it reviewed price and seat data since 2005 and found a widening gap between Wisconsin's regional airports, like the one in Madison, and the larger Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.
The Gannett review found the average fare was up about $42 at Dane County Regional Airport. That's still significantly lower than the $80 average fare increase at Outagamie County Regional Airport, $125 at Austin Straubel International and nearly $100 at Central Wisconsin Airport.
At Mitchell International, fares have decreased by an average of $1.
Outagamie County airport director Abe Weber says selling smaller hubs is all about saving time.
"Everyone has their own threshold, but we continue to tell moms and dads they can spend an extra hour with their children before flying for work, or can make sure you get home to watch that soccer game," Outagamie County airport director Abe Weber said. "You have to consider the cost of time with your family vs. travel time."
