Christmas tree farmers/sellers facing shorter season

MADISON (WKOW) -- The window for making money is smaller for Christmas tree sellers this year, with Thanksgiving falling on the latest possible date.

That means tree growers have one less weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas to sell their trees.

Jim Whorton owns Chub Lake Tree Farm, near Carlton, and says he has opened on the Friday after Thanksgiving for 30 years. But Whorton told the Duluth News Tribune he was scared of waiting that long this year and opened this past Saturday.

But the News Tribune reports other Christmas tree sellers are choosing to wait till after Thanksgiving, as usual.
