Kaminsky named Big Ten Player of the Week

MADISON – Following his career week, which included a UW school record 43-point outing against North Dakota on Nov. 19, junior Frank Kaminsky was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Kaminsky averaged 26.0 points per game this week, hitting double figures in all three contests. The Lisle, Ill. native shot 67.4 percent from the field, going 29-of-43 overall, including an impressive 8-for-12 from 3-point range.
He now ranks seventh in the Big Ten in scoring (17.3), seventh in field goal percentage (.582) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.550).
Kaminsky's 43 points on Tuesday are the most scored in college basketball this season and equal the most by any player in the Big Ten since 1996-97. Illinois' Brandon Paul also poured in 43 against Ohio State on Jan. 10, 2012.
Along with being one of just four Division I players since 1996-97 to score 43 points and shoot at least 84.0 percent from the field in a game, Kaminsky also broke a 48-year-old UW scoring record, which originally stood at 42 points by Ken Barnes in 1965 and Michael Finley in 1993.
The junior went on to tally 21 points in a 76-67 win over Oral Roberts on Nov 23. Kaminsky shot 50.0 percent (8-16) from the field against the Golden Eagles, while adding six rebounds.
This is Kaminsky's first career player of the week honor and the first for the Badgers since Ben Brust took home co-Player of the Week honors in February of 2013.
Kaminsky leads Wisconsin in points per game, as well as field-goal percentage (.582) and 3-point field-goal percentage (.550). He also ranks third on the team in rebounding (5.0) and has swatted a team-best 10 shots this season.
The Badgers begin semifinal play at the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday, Nov. 26, as they battle Saint Louis. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
