Thorp man arrested after attempted armed robbery in Stanley

Stanley (WQOW) - Shots were fired during an attempted armed robbery in Stanley.  A suspect is now in custody.

Police say David Corder, from Thorp, has been arrested.  He allegedly tried to break into a home in Stanley on Saturday.  There was a struggle between the suspect and victim.

The victim was hit with a hammer.  Investigators say, when the suspect went outside, the victim did too... with a gun from the home.  They say he fired shots in the air to scare the man.

Corder was eventually arrested.  The victim says he believes Corder was trying to steal prescription drugs from the home.


Stanley (Press Release) -
On Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 3:10 PM, Stanley Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on McKnight Street, City of Stanley for a residential Attempted Armed Robbery.  The suspect was identified as David A. Corder, 29, was arrested on charges of Attempted Armed Robbery, Battery and a Probation Violation.
 
The victim of the robbery was attacked with a hammer causing injury.  The victim of the robbery fired shots from a handgun during the incident, however, no one was struck by the rounds.  The suspect, identified as David A. Corder, 29, fled from the scene on foot prior to the arrival of officers.
 
An active search for Corder was conducted, including the use of a Police K9 from Loyal Police Department, and he was later arrested at his residence in the City of Thorp without further incident.  Chippewa County and Clark County Sheriff's Offices along with Cadott, Thorp and Loyal Police Departments assisted in the investigation.  No further details are being released presently as this is an active, ongoing investigation.  Corder remains in jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
