Emerald ash borer found in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- A tree-killing insect has been found in Madison.

Madison Parks says the emerald ash borer has been confirmed in the city.

The insects feed on the tissue of ash trees, which eventually kills the trees.

More than 19,000 street trees in Madison are ash trees.

This is the first time the ash borer has been found in Dane County. The closest it had been detected was Janesville.

The city has more information about the ash borer on its website, including how to protect your trees and how to report if you think your trees are infested.

City officials plan to announce more details about the city's infestation at a news conference on Tuesday, November 26.
